Risks: Personal Injury & Door Damage

Your garage door has a spring and cables to create tension (like a piano wire) to leverages the door’s weight to easily lift the door. A service technician will adjust the spring to a precise amount of tension in order to safely correct both the door position and the cables used to pull the door. Forcing the door straight often ends in personal injury and may damage the door (like the picture above).

Door won’t close

Safe / Able to DIY?
YES

If your Garage Door opened, but won’t close, it’s most likely the two LED lights at the bottom of your door’s track. These have to point toward each other for your door motor to safely close the door. If an object blocks their line-of-sight or the LED lights aren’t pointing toward each other, the door won’t go down.

Keypad or Remote not working?

Safe / Able to DIY?
YES

Cover your keypad from sunlight with your hand. Does it light up when you push a button? If not, it probably needs a new battery. If it’s getting power, or you’ve replaced batteries in the keypad or remotes, you may need to reprogram your remotes to sync with the door motor. If you call us, we’ll walk you through reprogramming your remote, or we can send a technician out to help!

If your spring broke, the coils will have a visible gap (and you may have heard a loud pop). Cables may have broken or come off (near the track by the edges of the door). Resetting power (the breaker box) or outages can be a simple fix. Some causes require the help of a garage door service tech. If it still won’t open, more troubleshooting will be needed.
